Sum values in one column depending on values in another column

I have around a hundred sheets containing the information in the following format:


a 12 xxx yyy
a 34 xxx yyy
a 23 xxx yyy
b 12 sss fff
b 53 sss fff
c 23 qqq kkk
d 67 ttt ooo
d 25 ttt ooo
d 12 ttt ooo

I want to sum the "a", "b" etc in the respective hundred sheets in this format:

a 69 xxx yyy
b 65 sss fff
c 23 qqq kkk
d 104 ttt ooo

Something like...

=SUMIF(Sheet1!$A$2:$A$10,"a",Sheet1!$B$2:$B$10)

The criterion "a" can be replaced with the cell housing it.
