SUMIF function using multiple criteria

Does anyone know how to match >1 field as criteria in a SUMIF function? I need to sum a list of numbers when the name matches in a cell but I also want to only sum if within a certain date range. Any help is much appreciated.

You can use SUMPRODUCT. See here for examples:

If using XL07 or later, you can also use SUMIFS

Excel 2007 and 2010 has a sumifs function where you can specify multiple criterium ranges.

Thanks for your responses. I am using Excel 2003, so I will try the first suggestion using SUMPRODUCT.
