I have a list of balances in column 'A' and a list of expiry dates in column 'B'. in Column 'C' i have the end of month date for many years. i basically want to create a profile in column 'D' that will give me a total balance for all products that havent expired.

e.g. the balances in my list have expiration dates starting from 01/08/07 through to 01/08/15. so if the first date in column 'C' was 31/07/07 it would give me the total balance of everything in column 'A' but in the next cell down (column 'D') which has a date of 31/08/07 it will give me a total of everything excluding any balances with an expiration in Aug 07. etc etc.

im sure this can be done with a sumif but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Excel Facts

Is there a shortcut key for strikethrough?
Ctrl+S is used for Save. Ctrl+5 is used for Strikethrough. Why Ctrl+5? When you use hashmarks to count |||| is 4, strike through to mean 5.
Pivot tables can do this fairly simply I am sure, but i am not quite sure what you want your output to be like exactly.

i would rather not use a pivot table if i can get away with it.

Column A Column B Column C Column D
(Balance) (Expiration) (EoM Date) (Total)

10 05/08/07 31/07/07 150
20 10/08/07 31/08/07 90
30 20/08/07 30/09/07
40 10/09/07 31/10/07
50 20/09/07 30/11/07

Basically i want column D to show me the total of column A, where the expiration date in column B is greater than that in Column C.
