sumif question

=SUMIF('IP Pivot'!$E11:$E33698,"*"&"_"&B15&"_"&"*",'IP Pivot'!M11:M33698) equals =SUMIF('IP Pivot'!$E:$E,"*"&"_"&B15&"_"&"*",'IP Pivot'!M:M)

but doesn't equal

=SUMIF('IP Pivot'!$E11:$E33698,"*"&"_"&B15&"_"&"*",'IP Pivot'!M:M)
or
=SUMIF('IP Pivot'!$E:$E,"*"&"_"&B15&"_"&"*",'IP Pivot'!M11:M33698)

why is this?
both columns only have values in the range row 11 to 33698.

also i should add, all four version of the sum if return a value and do not error out, the ones with the matching ranges, which are obviously correct, return something like 18mil as a value and the mismatch range ones return something like 2mil each.

I'm concerned because I can't figure out why they dont error out, and return an incorrect value, anyone know how the programming steps through the sumif function and why this would occur?
