=SUMIF($B$4:$B$134, "=CHAR(42)&management&CHAR(42)",$C$4:$C$134)

I'm trying to find all the cell that contains the word management in the description in B and sum all the corresponding values in C but the formula is not working. What am I doing wrong? Can I use this CHAR(42) expression here, Aladin? Thanks.

=SUMIF($B$4:$B$134, "=*management*", $C$4:$C$134)

Do that instead :)

You need to put the word management within double quotes, but not the CHAR(42) bits. SUMIF does an equality test, if no relational operator in the condition/criteria is specified.

=SUMIF($B$4:$B$134, CHAR(42)&"management"&CHAR(42),$C$4:$C$134)

You can of course put the word management in a cell of its, say in A1, then you get:

=SUMIF($B$4:$B$134, CHAR(42)&A1&CHAR(42),$C$4:$C$134)
