sumif

could you tell me what is wrong with this formula

=SUMIF(A2:A4,"=Sheet3!A1",E2:E4)
a2:a4 are dates
e2:e4 are expenses
a1 houses date as well

so lets say if I put 22/11/2005 in Sheet3 A1 its supposed to add all the expenses for 22/11/2005. as obvious there are multiple entries for each date.

Take the quotes out, and remove the = from inside the function.
