Summating values

I have a column of data (general format) in Excel 2007, which I inherit. I'm not allowed to change the format of the column.
Some of the rows are blank.
What formula can I use after the last row to summate the data?

{Formula} means the formula was entered using Ctrl+Shift+Enter signifying an old-style array formula.
Ah, I was using ALT+ to do the calculation which was not working as it didn't start from A1.
