What formula do you need to sum up the numbers 'a' 'c' letters in a column?

Excel Facts

Fastest way to copy a worksheet?
Hold down the Ctrl key while dragging tab for Sheet1 to the right. Excel will make a copy of the worksheet.
Do you mean there will be just a single letter in a cell, either a or c, or are you trying to count the a's and c's in words in the cell?

If it's just single letter:
=COUNTIF(A1:A100,"a")

and
=COUNTIF(A1:A100,"c")

Do you mean you want to count how many times the letters A and C appear in a column? IF so do you want just A or just C or a combined total of both!?

If you want to count either/or then:

=SUM(COUNTIF(A:A,{"A","C"}))

If you want to count separately, then use Hotpepper's suggestion.
