Summing Two Numbers in Same Cell

Hello

I have a spreadsheet that imports data from an external source. One of the cells contains a ratio in the following format: 0:1, 1:1, 5:1, etc. Is it possible to sum each side of the ratio and return the result in a different cell?

So, for example 5:1 should equal 6.
