Sumvalues equal to "xxx" on one sheet into another

I have a workbook with multiple sheets. I want one sheet, call it "C" to have cell that sums all values in sheet "B" equal to for example "Tony"

If there are 300 rows on sheet "B" and 12 of them have "Tony" in R1:R300, the target cell in sheet "C" should be equal to 12.

Sorry I know it's a rudimentary question. I used to do this sort of thing a lot 15 yrs ago. Now I am a stupid manager...

review the help file for countif() and sumif(). You might also consider using a pivot table. post back if you can't get it sorted
