I have 53k rows of descriptions but some of the cells have a # symbol at the beginning. How can I eliminate it? If you can help please.
I've tried SUBSTITUTE but just replaces it with the * symbol

# 005-0054zer Lateral M

Excel Facts

What is =ROMAN(40) in Excel?
The Roman numeral for 40 is XL. Bill "MrExcel" Jelen's 40th book was called MrExcel XL.
If you only have # at the beginning ,or not, then why would
Excel Formula:
=SUBSTITUTE(A2,"#","")
not do it?

Could any cells in your data have a # somewhere other than right at the start (eg 005-0054#zer Lateral M)?

Hi. After trying find/replace I also tried exactly that, =SUBSTITUTE(A2,"#",""), but no joy.
What I did in the end use to use substitute with "*", and then and I could do the find/replace for some reason.

Regarding to extracting files from XL2BB I have the file but it's not in the add-ins

I suggest that you update your Account details (or click your user name at the top right of the forum) so helpers always know what Excel version(s) & platform(s) you are using as the best solution often varies by version. (Don’t forget to scroll down & ‘Save’)

You need to follow each step in the instructions carefully. If still having problems, tell us exactly at which step a problem arises, and what that problem is. We have thousands of members successfully using XL2BB :)
