Synchronizing Worksheets b/w Documents

The Scenario:
I have several employees who get vacation/sick time balance summary files for those working under them. Each file has a summary sheet with totals and detail sheets for each corresponding employee listed in the summary sheet. However, some employees listed in the summary also get their own files with more employees listed under THEM. Each person that gets a summary file also has their own detail sheet within their own file -- so I basically have 2 or more files with a detail sheet for the same person. This leaves alot of room for error as I have to update each detail sheet with current information. If I forget to update one of the details then there is a discrepancy in totals between files -- not good.

The Question:
Is there any way to synchronize 2 or more worksheets between different files so that if one sheet is updated in a given file, the "synchronized" sheet in another file is automatically updated to mirror the modified sheet? I'm not talking about just values -- I know how to cross reference them. Each time the sheet is updated, its physical layout changes because additional rows are add/cells are moved. Alot to ask for, but perhaps there is a simple way to go about this?

Any help is much appreciated!
