Syntax for two variable in a formula

can get a single variable to work, but what is correct syntax for two variables in a formula?

following fails, need help with formula syntax
a = -1
b = -2
ActiveCell.FormulaR1C1 = "=RC[" & b & "] / RC{" & a & "] "
