Hi all

Stupid question I know but I have a list of words in colum A and I want to do a count of certain words. How do I do this.

Excel Facts

Copy formula down without changing references
If you have =SUM(F2:F49) in F50; type Alt+' in F51 to copy =SUM(F2:F49) to F51, leaving the formula in edit mode. Change SUM to COUNT.
Spot on mate.

Just one more thing, how do I use a the count function on ranges. Ie i have a list of ages and I want to count those between 40 and 50, 51 and 60 etc

A couple of options,

=COUNTIF($A$1:$A$100,">=40")-COUNTIF($A$1:$A$100,">50")

=SUMPRODUCT(--($A$1:$A$100>=40),--($A$1:$A$100<=50))
