In column K- I have dates in text format- '10/27/74. If I do a =value(K1) in a cell it puts it in a date/number mode.

How do I replicate that using VB? Here's what I have, but my code is wrong:

For x = 1 To rws

Range("W" & x).Value = Value(Range("K" & x).Value)

Next x

Excel Facts

Format cells as date
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+3 to format cells as date. (Shift 3 is the # sign which sort of looks like a small calendar).
Try:

<font face=Tahoma><SPAN style="color:#00007F">Sub</SPAN> test()
<SPAN style="color:#00007F">Dim</SPAN> x <SPAN style="color:#00007F">As</SPAN> <SPAN style="color:#00007F">Long</SPAN>

<SPAN style="color:#00007F">For</SPAN> x = 1 <SPAN style="color:#00007F">To</SPAN> [K65536].End(xlUp).Row
    Cells(x, "W").Value = DateValue(Cells(x, "K").Value)
<SPAN style="color:#00007F">Next</SPAN> x

<SPAN style="color:#00007F">End</SPAN> <SPAN style="color:#00007F">Sub</SPAN></FONT>

Hmm. Ok, this is working for me as well. It's worth a shot at any rate :)

<font face=Tahoma><SPAN style="color:#00007F">Sub</SPAN> test()
<SPAN style="color:#00007F">Dim</SPAN> x <SPAN style="color:#00007F">As</SPAN> <SPAN style="color:#00007F">Long</SPAN>

<SPAN style="color:#00007F">For</SPAN> x = 1 <SPAN style="color:#00007F">To</SPAN> [K65536].End(xlUp).Row
    Cells(x, "W").Value = FormatDateTime(Cells(x, "K").Value, vbGeneralDate)
<SPAN style="color:#00007F">Next</SPAN> x

<SPAN style="color:#00007F">End</SPAN> <SPAN style="color:#00007F">Sub</SPAN></FONT>
