Text Formula returning incorrect result

I have tried using the text formula to extract the Month only from text from Nov-16, but it returns Mar

You could test following :

=TEXT(D2,"mmm-yy")

If those cells really do contain real dates, and you just want the month name, why not just reference the cell =D2 and then format to just show month?

Use 1 less "m" for abbreviated month !!
