I am trying to extract a piece of text from a cell. I've tried the MID function and the RIGHT function but the text I am trying to extract does not follow a perfectly linear pattern like these functions assume. Here are 3 samples:

D.CB*9045717DF3
D.BSB*14386BCD3
D.WT*V08727-00789

I am only trying to extract the characters that come after the *, but as you can see sometimes the * comes as the 2nd or 3rd letter from the left in the cell and sometimes the numbers of characters I am trying to extract can be 10 or 12 characters from the right of the cell.

Is there any function that could help me out with this?

Excel Facts

Test for Multiple Conditions in IF?
Use AND(test, test, test, test) or OR(test, test, test, ...) as the logical_test argument of IF.
Why not try Data>Text to columns... with * as the delimiter?

You can use the function FIND() which will give you the position of the * and then use LEN() whill give you the lenght of the string
