I need to convert data from a system into seconds. It comes in standard hh:mm:ss format. If converted to text format it gives a very odd decimal figure. I have also tried setting up 3 columns, one to extract hours, one for min and one for seconds, using left, mid and right sums. This did not work at all though. Please help me - this is quite urgent!!!

Excel Facts

Why does 9 mean SUM in SUBTOTAL?
It is because Sum is the 9th alphabetically in Average, Count, CountA, Max, Min, Product, StDev.S, StDev.P, Sum, VAR.S, VAR.P.
Try

=A1*86400

where A1 holds the time and format the result cell as Number.
