"timing out" when trying to rename tab

Finally got upgraded to excel 2010 at work and seeing some strange issues. One major annoyance is I appear to only have a couple seconds to enter a name range or change the name of a tab before it times out

Example, I will double click on tab to rename, after a second or two it will go back to the worksheet and my typing will then be in the cell.

Is there an option that I can extend this time? Wasted way too much time trying to figure it out.

Excel Facts

Which came first: VisiCalc or Lotus 1-2-3?
Dan Bricklin and Bob Frankston debuted VisiCalc in 1979 as a Visible Calculator. Lotus 1-2-3 debuted in the early 1980's, from Mitch Kapor.
What your describing isn't typical for an xl2010 installation. On my computer's xl2010, I can double-click on the sheet tab, walk away for an hour and the caret will still be waiting for me on the sheet tab upon return.

There might be some other change that is causing that and it coincided with your upgrade to 2010.
Are you using the same computer, mouse and keyboard or were any of those components changed?

I suspect that there is something taking focus away from the tab, like:
hardware (jittery mouse or keyboard)
excel events (macros in Personal.xlsb being called at fast interval?)
other software (RSS feed or other background application)
???something else??
