to get or not get a digital certificate?

Hi guys/gals

What is the consensus of opinion regarding signing VBA projects?

and is it better to purchase one that is unique or create my own, which anybody could duplicate?

at the moment, all my excel work has been produced for use 'in house' but there are some that could be offered to other agencies as they are suitable for their use too.

thanks, Mike

Why does 9 mean SUM in SUBTOTAL?
It is because Sum is the 9th alphabetically in Average, Count, CountA, Max, Min, Product, StDev.S, StDev.P, Sum, VAR.S, VAR.P.
I was tempted quite a few times but never did anything about it. I'd say offer the work to agencies and if there's an offer to buy something you've done, then invest in a digital certificate. Until then I'd stick with using a self-cert, if you're worried about duplication, get people to check the date/time the certificate was created as well.

Hi Nick, thanks for your reply, what you suggest does seem to be suitable for me however, I'm a little curious about the date aspect - when I create a self certificate the date goes in as the beginning of this year, and I cannot change it. Presumably someone else on another PC could create a self certificate copy and it would put the same date in for them?

There would be no difference between my (genuine) certificate and the copy still? Or is there a way to change the date that I haven't found yet?

Nope, you're completely right and I'd just never noticed that before. Sure there's a reason it does that but I can't think of one. In that case I guess you're only option would be a paid for certificate. Seems a little over the top for internal projects though so I'd still hold off until you were sure you'd get some return on it. Last time I looked Comodo did them for about £65 for a year but I never went ahead with it so I'd check some reviews.
