To update or not

I am looking to automatically update a workbook based on the user. The excel workbook pulls in information from an external DB that other users do not have access to. When I open the book, I would like it to update but when other none authorized DB users open the book, I would like them to see the information contained within the book and not attempt to update. If it does update, it gives an error to the user.

Is this possible?

You can record refreshing your data manually, then call it with a test in the Open event:
