=TODAY() creating circular reference

I have a spreadsheet that I've been using for years to track my finances which was saved as .xls. I recently updated it to .xlsx and I'm suddenly having circular reference issues on every tab. The most perplexing one is if I type =TODAY() into any cell, it shows up under Circular References, but doesn't connect to any other cells. I can still use that function on other workbooks without issue, it's just this specific file.

Has anyone seen this type of problem before?

My apologies if this has been covered before, I searched for "today circular reference" and couldn't find anything similar.
