Track Changes in a Linked Spreadsheet

HI

Hoping someone can help!

My company has a document (it's 11MB in which we are tracking the worker status of 5000 staff. It's a complex document with lots of formula's etc.

A team is tasked with updating the Company T&A system with the changes. However, departments make changes to the initial data after cut off points and it's causing a huge headache.

We can't use Track Changes on the master document - there are 60 plus tabs and the comments feature has been used.

We therefore have tried to link one specific tab to another file. This works and when the master document is updated the changes appear in real time in the linked document. So far so good :)

The issue we're having is when we try to use the Highlight Changes function. Selected is When we select Highlight Changes the message "This Action will now save the workbook. Do you want to continue?"

I select OK and the the following message appears: AUTOSAVE TURNED OFF: This workbook contains features that prevent it from using AutoSave, Please save your workbook manually.

I press save but the changes don't highlight.

We can't rely on co-author as hundreds of changes per day are made and we need a quick visual to know further changes are needed to X.Y,Z employees rather than having to check 5000 employees daily.

Is Highlight Changes function not compatible with a linked document?

Many thanks in advance,

JMAW
