Hi folks,

I have been asked to track how much time I spend with data entry, within each specific file, hundreds of files... but I find this an incredibly inconvenient.

Is there a way to have excel track the number of minutes it is open, every time it is open, and just have a running tally?

I do not want to know how many times it is opened or who has opened it. 99.9% of the time it is me only.

Something easy that I can link to a summary page?

Repeat Last Command
Pressing F4 adds dollar signs when editing a formula. When not editing, F4 repeats last command.
For a file, I have used a log sheet and macros to fill it. You would have to be able to modify the file to add that sort of thing. If that interests you, I can look for my old example. I know many others have done similar things.

There are more broad application trackers. Network IT people have access to tools that would do it.

If you don't want to use a workbook log method, then I guess you can try some of the application trackers. A quick search found two. I make no recommendation regarding these.
