How can I track changes in a linked spreadsheet?

SITUATION: Many users enter dates in several status spreadsheets. I need to see what changed since the last time I checked the status. My idea is to copy source cells into a consolidated workbook and link to them so that I have a "mirror." I want to make the font red in my "mirror" and have changes come from the link in black. The problem is that the link defaults to the "mirror" setting, i.e., red text.

I am open to other suggestions on how to approach the situation.
