Trendline option not an option

I'm trying to add a trendline to a chart that has 6 different categories, and no matter where I click and then Chart/and try to click 'add trendline'-it's grayed out..not able to be selected.
Am I doing something wrong by clicking somewhere I shouldn't be?

As far as I know, the trendline option is only available for "X-Y Scatter" type charts - not for bar/column/line charts

I have successfully used a trendline on a line graph before.
Maybe it would help if you started the chart with the data series that you want the trendline for, then add the other series to the chart.

I think it's because it's a stacked bar chart that I can't do the trendline. I was able to add a datapoint and then make that point a line graph and then do the trendline on just that set of datapoints --I'm hoping that will work.
