is there a formula that will trim the last two and first two characters of a 7 digit code in one sweep:

BEASW60 trimmed to ASW in the next cell.

Excel Facts

Copy formula down without changing references
If you have =SUM(F2:F49) in F50; type Alt+' in F51 to copy =SUM(F2:F49) to F51, leaving the formula in edit mode. Change SUM to COUNT.
If it's always a 7-digit code you want "trimmed", then try

=MID(A1,3,3) where A1 houses the code.

5 identical solutions...is that a record?

just for a bit of variety......if you want to exclude the first 2 and last 2 characters whatever the string length

=IF(LEN(A1)>3,MID(A1,3,LEN(A1)-4),"")
