Trouble when Creating a Calculated Item in a Pivot Table

I am having some difficulties with my end result when I create a calculated item in a pivot table and cannot figure out how to resolve it.

In my pivot table I have a column for each month of the year and a column for Grand Total which sums the values from each month of the year. I want to include in my pivot table a column for each Quarter of the year by creating a calculated item. When I do this, however, the pivot table adds this value to the Grand Total amount. Is there a way to change this so that the Grand Total does not include the values for each quarter?

I can send examples to support my question.

Excel Facts

Return population for a City
If you have a list of cities in A2:A100, use Data, Geography. Then =A2.Population and copy down.
I have thought about that, but what I'm actually trying to do is have the Grand Total just calculate the values of the months.

Turn off the Grand Totals and create a Calculated Item for it as well as those for the Quarters.
