Trying to convert dates from 1/1/2020 to 01/01/2020

Apologize if this has been answered but I couldn't find a thread on it. I'm using Excel 365 and trying to convert a entire column of dates to xx/xx/xxxx from x/x/xxxx or xx/x/xxxx. I highlighted the column and selected format cells > Date > then my selection, but it's not working.

Actually want mm/dd/yyyy, but regardless, I tried it without success. If you look at my video here it shows what I did and the results.

Are you sure that there aren't ' characters preceding your dates? E.g. A1:A2 below versus A3:A4:

Select A3:A4 - Goto Format Cells, Select Custom. then replace mm/dd/yyyy in box showing the text "general" -then OK out
