Unable to open Hyperlinks in Excel??

When trying to open web links from MS Excel I get the error message: "Unable to open xxxx. Cannot locate the Internet server or proxy server." xxx is a URL. It happens for several different URLs. If I cut and paste from Excel into my browser, it works OK.

I looked up http://support.microsoft.com/kb/218153 but it didn't help much.

I'm using Firefox v3 on windows XP.

Have tried Excel 97 and Excel 2007. Both give the same message.

Any ideas what to do?
