Unable to perform a vlookup on a partial address

When I perform a Vlookup on this cell address I'm receiving N/A. I used this formula for another search where I only had five characters in the cell and needed to bring back the full value from my V look up and it worked for that.

=VLOOKUP(LEFT($D41&"*",4),'VF Recon from Ron 10-6'!L:R,1,FALSE)

Try it like
Excel Formula:
=VLOOKUP(LEFT($D41,4)&"*",'VF Recon from Ron 10-6'!L:R,1,FALSE)
