Hello, and thanks in advance for any support!

Using Office 97 Excel
Vista Home operating system

Using a brand new worksheet, containing no macros or formulas at all -

I select Tools--->Macro--->Record New Macro--->OK

Result = "Unable to Record."

The error persisted after reinstalling excel.

Tools--->Options--->General--->Macro Virus Protection is set to OFF.

Confounded!

Excel Facts

Links? Where??
If Excel says you have links but you can't find them, go to Formulas, Name Manager. Look for old links to dead workbooks & delete.

I Googled "excel 97 vista unable to record macro" and got a few hits that might be useful for you. I suggest you try the same.

Edit: Mind you, I'd say it's definitely time to upgrade from Excel 97!!

thanks Peter, I already spent 60-90 minutes googling just that. Almost all the postings are either off-point, or describe errors from formulas exceeding 255 characters; this is no help at all - per my earlier message, my worksheet is devoid of content, including macros.

Appreciate any other ideas.

ps Office 97 has worked perfectly for me 12 years - until Vista.
