Understand how to lock and unlock cells, how to protect and unprotect worksheets.

When sheet is locked, I need to allow the user to select the generated chart, and copy it for use elsewhere.

Seen other posts-- Format Chart, Properties, Unlock.
But, when the sheet is unprotected, I select the chart, Format Chart Area, Properties, all the choices are grayed out. Locked is checked, but gray. Cannot unlock it.

Something must be overriding the access to the chart properties. Can't figure out what it is.

I tried a test: All cells unlocked. Selected one empty cell (not related to the chart) and locked it. Protected the worksheet. all the cells are editable, except for the one that is locked. And the chart is also locked.

How to calculate loan payments in Excel?
Use the PMT function: =PMT(5%/12,60,-25000) is for a $25,000 loan, 5% annual interest, 60 month loan.
This chart had a couple of text boxes grouped with it. Appears that this grouping disables the lock/unlock check box.
Each object has the lock function within its properties.

I figured it out.

To protect the sheet and lock some cells, but still allow the chart to be copied

The chart and each added object must have its Locked setting UnLocked in the Format Object, Properties panel. The added objects would be lines, text boxes, etc. added to the basic chart. They do not include the chart bars, lines or chart generated headers.

1.With everything UnGrouped. Individually select each object, set the Properties to UnLocked.

2. Then group the chart and all the objects.

3. To insure this worked, select the grouped object, Format Chart, Properties. If the Locked option is checked but grayed out, then there is an object somewhere in the group that still has its properties Locked.

4. UnGroup, find the culprit, UnLock it and Group again.

5. Repeat step 3 until you get them all UnLocked.

6. Protect the Worksheet. You should be able to select the chart, copy and paste it elsewhere.
