Underline Formatting Problem

I have an excel spreadsheet where I am attempting to put an underline along the bottom of a cell (using the border function). But the underline in the cell is a light gray color instead of the usual black. I went in to the format cells area and attempted to change the color, but had no luck. I also cleared all formats in the cell and tried it again, but had the same result. Then I copied, paste-special from another workbook that had the dark underline, but still a light gray color. What am I doing wrong?

Excel Facts

What does custom number format of ;;; mean?
Three semi-colons will hide the value in the cell. Although most people use white font instead.
If you had changed the border color, then just selecting the "automatic" color will not change the color back to Black. In the dialog box with the Format Cells > Borders tab, in lower right corner, select the color indicator and then specifically choose the Black color (should be upper left one in the palette).

If it happens to all the borders, then select the entire worksheet and go through the process so that all cells have the same color pattern.
