I am trying to use the unique filter function. I want it to sort the unique
items on one column and copy them to another column but bring the data
in the next column with them without applying the unique function filter to that column. Is is possible with the built in Advanced filter or do you have to write some code to do this?

Excel Facts

What does custom number format of ;;; mean?
Three semi-colons will hide the value in the cell. Although most people use white font instead.

Sort the data on the target column then run Advanced Filter. While running these commands, try to record a macro.

Othwerwise, you'll need to apply a formula system to achieve a sorted list of distinct items. See e.g.: http://www.mrexcel.com/board2/viewtopic.php?t=60349
