Hi All,

I am after a formula that can deducted break from working hours

  • Employees who work more than six hours are entitled to a 30 minute break and if they work more than 8 hours they are entitled to another 30 min.
  • A=start time
  • B=finishing time
  • Total hours -break ...

Many thanks in advance

That's exactly what my formula is doing. See sample results in my table in Post #5

If I'm misunderstanding your requirements, please explain again.
I found it: B2-A2)-IF((B2-A2)<=0.25,0,IF((B2-A2)>1/3,TIME(1,0,0),TIME(0,30,0)))
Slight change on the = sign

Excel Facts

Can you AutoAverage in Excel?
There is a drop-down next to the AutoSum symbol. Open the drop-down to choose AVERAGE, COUNT, MAX, or MIN
I suggest to look at this from working time point of view. After 5:59 this is still your full working time, but after 6:00 all of a sudden you have worked just 5:30?
A fairer approach seems to be subtracting only the time BEYOND 6:00 up to 0:30. For 6:00 you don't subtract anything, for 6:01 you subtract 0:01, ..., for 6:29 you subtract 0:29, but after that it's 0:30.
See Calculate Response time using different working hours during the week and excluding weekends / bankholidays for a suggested solution with a parameter for multiple breaks.
