i got a problem here

my part numbering is 12345-01. The last 2 digit is a reference number.

I need a formula whereby if the number before the dash appears the same, the reference number will increase one level. resulting 12345-02 and so on.

is there a formula to help?

please advise. Thanks

What did Pito Salas invent?
Pito Salas, working for Lotus, popularized what would become to be pivot tables. It was released as Lotus Improv in 1989.
meaning if i got a part number 12345-01, and if there's repeated number in first 5 digit, the last 2 digit will up one level to 12345-02

I am not sure you can do it by a simple formula since you have to reference previous part numbers before it. Through a macro, maybe.

hi agnes,

I am sorry but I still don't understand. Give some examples of a repeated number.
