I have this problem that I can't get the value selected in a drop down list in a cell to update automatically after updating the list value.

1) Original list

2) Updated Product Item C to Item C aa, but it do not update automatically even though I use the data validation formula with automatic update of drop down list.

Is it possible to automatically update or refresh cell value selected from drop down list without re-selecting value in list?

Thank you in advance.

Excel Facts

Shade all formula cells
To shade all formula cells: Home, Find & Select, Formulas to select all formulas. Then apply a light fill color.
After you select ItemC, then you changed the List to ItemCaa, it will not get refreshed. However, if you click drop down list again the list is updated, right?

I don't know if it is possible the update the displayed ItemC without clicking the drop down list again.

No because it is put in the cell as a value when you click it in the dropdown (the same as if you done a copy/pastespecial value)

I suppose you could put in a trigger for detecting changes in column A in the worksheet's event handling, and then have it update the values in column C based on what changed. I think you'll have trouble doing it using only data validation though.

So Event Handling should be through VBA coding or is there any shortcuts for this?
