Update VLOOKUP links

I have a workbook(A) that contains a lot of VLOOKUP formulas into unopened workbooks(B). When I open my workbook (A) and choose update links nothing is updated.

Once I open the workbooks (B) the values are updated.

Is there a way to get these to update automatically? Should I be using a different type of formula?

I'm using Office 2007.

Thanks!

What is your vlookup formula?

I would suggest maybe trying to use index/match?
