Updating Links between Workbooks

I have been working on an Excell 2003 program which uses links between about 30 Workbooks(Master Workbook has 8 WorkSheets other 29 have 1 Worksheet). I would like to be able to have the workbooks update links each time a change is made however the master workbook both recieves and sends linked information from and to the other 29 Workbooks which may be open on other computers using the same networked drive. Is there a way to automate the updating of the links upon change in any Workbook and if not how can I have it update the links as close to real time as possible?

I thought possibly a timed interval using a VB event upon openning the Workbook.

Any suggestions would be great but please inform me if it is even possible.
