updating links

If i link a bunch of cells in a worksheet with a bunch in another worksheet. We know that a chnage in data in one will change the other. If new rows/columns are added it will continue to update.

Anyway of changing this? So that if a new row is added the second worksheet doesn't update perhaps coming up with N/A instead. I've just thought of Vlookups, any alternative?

this makes you able to import data from another xls file.
then, in properties, you can turn background refreshing off.

then you have a copy of the data in your sheet, and you can refresh it manually.
