Hi All,
I have a template summary spreadsheet. I would like to run a macro that will look for a particular file and if the date is within a certin range then update the template, otherwise dont update it.

Is this possible to do? all the spreadsheets are xls based

thanks
Samuel

How can you automate Excel?
Press Alt+F11 from Windows Excel to open the Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) editor.
Yes this is possible.. A couple of questions to consider..

Is the file the template is looking for always in the same place or should the user select it (via a file dialog box)

What is the format of both the template and the "particular file" (will the layout of the particular file change?)

If the date of what is within a certain range? todays date? is the date in the filename?

1) all the files are all located in the same folder

2) the summary template is 1 wookbook with 10 tabs, and baiscally each tab represents one file from where the summary needs to get the data from - all files are in the same format

3) the date of teh 10 files is within a particular date range then open it and copy the data into the summary template
