Use Rank.Ave in a filter or Reference another Cell

I applied Rank Ave to a large set of data using the following formula,=RANK.AVG(L1358,$L$1357:$L$2696,0), but when I apply a filter the rank remains the same (due to hard coding the cells which is needed to copy it all of the way down). Is there a function where I can rank based on a reference in a different cell (for example rank all of the data in 'Column1' based on criteria in 'Column2')?
