I wish to be able to interrogate Access tables and have been told that I need to use ADO. Do I have to download anything to use this or does Excel 2002 come with it?

ADO is one way to access data in Access (and other databases) but there are others.
As far as I'm aware ADO is standard with MS Office.
If you goto the VBA editor, Tools>References... and scroll down you should see something like this.
Microsoft Microsoft ActiveX Data Objects 2.X Library
I think that's the library your after.
