Using barcode scanner with combobox

I have a user form with a combobox containing a list of names and the users have items that have been given a barcode label with a name. They scan the label and it selects the corresponding name from the list.

This is working fine with names but I want to shift to using an ID number rather than a name to protect identities and this is where everything falls down. When I scan the number it doesn't 'jump' to that item in the list but selects the first item in the list.

Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions why this would happen?

The combobox list is populated (in both cases) with:

ComboBoxTest.List = Sheet2.Range("StaffID").Value

Lock one reference in a formula
Need 1 part of a formula to always point to the same range? use $ signs: $V$2:$Z$99 will always point to V2:Z99, even after copying
Problem solved.

I changed the staff ID number to alphanumeric with a leading character and it now works.
