Using data validation list to delete unwanted rows

I need the ability to filter a sheet in a workbook based on the selection of a data validation dropdown list. The filtering needs to be done by deletion, the built-in filtering only makes it invisible, I need it to go away entirely. The idea is to select a criteria for one of the columns from the dropdown, and remove any row that doesn't comply with that criteria from another sheet. I know how to make the dropdown, it's the deletion I don't know how to enact/trigger. Since the criteria is ID based, I'll likely have the cell next to the dd vlookup the ID based on the selected value, and have the deletion trigger off of it.

What does custom number format of ;;; mean?
Three semi-colons will hide the value in the cell. Although most people use white font instead.
