Using Excel to Validate Grades

Hi there,
I am trying to create a formula in which a passing grade (A, B, or C) in a second semester math class validates a failing score (D or F) from the first semester. I have grades in two separate columns and want to add an additional column that checks to see if the semester 2 grade validates semester 1. So, student 1 would be validated, student 2 didn't need to be validated, and student 3's grade should not be validated.

	Semester 1 math	Semester 2	Grade Validated?
Student 1	D	A
Student 2	A	B
Student 3	F	D

Try something like this
Formula in D2 copied down
=IF(OR(B2={"A";"B";"C"}),"No need",IF(OR(C2={"A";"B";"C"}),"Validated","Not validated"))
