Using Filter inside Rank

When I try to use Filter inside a Rank function I get a generic formula error. If I do a filter to a spilled array and then use the spilled array in the Rank function it works.
The formula that gets an error looks like this : =RANK(H2,FILTER(H2:H8,E2:E8=2020)).
I recall that some functions don't work with dynamic arrays and there was a simple work around but I can't seem to find it.
Can you help?
