Using formulae in cell references

Hello,

I need to write a formula in Excel with a cell reference which changes with the result of another cell's contents.

SIMPLE EXAMPLE: A formula in cell A1 returns the value x. I want to write a formula which will return a value for 'B10-Bx'.

E.g. A1 contains a formula returning value 6. B10 contains value 230, B6 contains the value 50. I need a formula which will calculate B10-B6 (taking the '6' from A1's formula result) and returning '180'.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Try:

=B10-INDIRECT("B"&A1)

That's great - thanks for the ultra-quick reply. I thought there must be a simple way to do this but couldn't find the answer in Excel Help.
