I know there are great plug-ins for Fuzzy Lookups on Windows machines but I work in a Mac office. I have 3 cols of data:

 • Col A = My accounts
 • Col B = Each account's point of contact
 • Col C = Attendee list
I want to know if an account I own in col A is in the attendee list in col C but there will be spelling inconsistencies between the 2 lists (e.g. - Coca Cola -vs- The Coca Cola Bottling Company). How can I fuzzy compare these lists against each other where:

 • Col A = My accounts
 • Col B = Each account's point of contact
 • Col C = Attendee list
 • Col D = returns "Each account's point of contact" if the adjacent attendee in col (C) is a fuzzy match to any of my accounts in col (A).
Is there a magical/fuzzy function or is considering a formula that can compare "any 8-char string" found in a record in (A) is also found in (C)?

Excel Facts

What is the shortcut key for Format Selection?
Ctrl+1 (the number one) will open the Format dialog for whatever is selected.
You may use regular VLOOKUP or HLOOKUP functions and modify your lookup value by adding Asteris ("*").

For example You have "Cocacola" in B1,

=VLOOKUP("*"&B1&"*",D1:K15,3,0) This will find "The Cocacola Company".

Man... this was much simpler than anything I was imagining. Sometimes fresh eyes (from an expert) really clarifies the approach I should've taken. Thanks, Flashbond!
